Vitriol: Into the silence I sink
21/01/13 || Averatu
Six guys somewhere in Italia got really bored and decided to get together and start a prog metal band named Vitriol. I’m no prog expert, but I decided to give it a shot. I find them more towards the Rush side of the spectrum and less on the Opeth (ugh), but with more chugging. So basically they are music nerds, and hence as is the requirement of the genre, the musical execution is impressive. You’ll find these guy’s where Tool and Dream Theater converge, with some extended breaks verging on poly-rhythmic studies, very solid vocal delivery of the clean and raspy variety, but no growling or screaming worth mentioning. Again we have some of the second language English lyrics come across as pretty clumsy. There are some smatterings of keyboard solos reminding me of Rudesian ivory-wanking, but generally the band have the keyboardist kept well in his cage. No real genre bending happening, but they deliver a solid, assessable album and a worthwhile listen.
7/10: This may well develop in one of those lights of, cup of coffee/glass of wine albums.
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
